Textile auxiliary chemicals

OPTAVON 4UD
Strongly acid sequestering agent for demineralisation
of cellulosic textiles and for use as an acid donor
combination of organic phosphorous compounds and carboxylic acid compounds
Chemical composition
Appearance: clear, brown liquid
Ionicity: anionic
Solubility/Emulsifiability: readily soluble in cold and warm water
pH-value of 10% solution: about 1.5
Resistance: applicable within the pH range of 1 to 14
resistant to organic acids and alkalis in usual concentrations as
well as to oxidizing and reducing bleaching agents; compatible with
anionic and non-ionic products
Storage: at least 12 months if properly stored
Stability to frost: not sensitive to frost
Characteristics
• very high sequestering power regarding iron ions
• extraction and masking of hardness elements from cellulose fibres
• aids stabilising of hydrogen peroxide in bleaching liquors
• prevents silicate deposits on machine parts
• increases the efficiency of washing and rinsing processes
• foam-free, applicable in jets
• corrosion inhibiting
Application properties
Material: cotton, polyester/cotton, cotton/elastane, linen, jute
The outstanding properties of OPTAVON 4UD allow a versatile use of the product during all
pretreatment processes, e.g. as a sequestering agent, for demineralizing and as an acid
donor.

OPTAVON 4UD
The main application field of OPTAVON 4UD is the acidic demineralisation of cellulosic textiles.
This treatment results in extracting alkaline earth and heavy metal ions from the textile goods
and reducing their ash content. This way, a subsequent bleaching is more effective, provides
less fibre damage and shows better reproducible effects. The danger of catalyst damage is
reduced to a minimum.
When the below stated process parameters and application quantities of OPTAVON 4UD are
observed, the optimum pH value required for demineralisation will be obtained. Good extraction
results are achieved without damaging the cellulosic fibre.
Depending on the respective pH value, OPTAVON 4UD displays specific qualities. So the
product can act as a complexing and stabilizing agent when it is applied in the alkaline range.
The application of OPTAVON 4UD eliminates the use of organic acids (formic or acetic acid) in
neutralisation processes and the addition of OPTAVON 4UD to the rinsing bath after peroxide
bleaching supports the complete removal of remaining impurities.
OPTAVON 4UD is not suitable for use in dyebaths.
The product is universally applicable both in discontinuous and continuous processes.
OPTAVON 4UD is dilutable with cold or warm water in all proportions. It can be added to the
treatment liquors directly without preliminary diluting.
Continuous treatment by pad-batch process:
1.0 - 3.0 g/kg OPTAVON 4UD
1.0 - 2.0 g/kg NEWALOL PFN (wetting agent)
- cold padding, liquor pick up about 80%
- dwelling for 1 to 2 hrs. at room temperature
- rinse hot, warm, cold

Discontinuous acid demineralization:
For acid demineralisation the following procedure is suggested:
2 - 4 g/l OPTAVON 4UD
1 g/l NEWALOL PFN (wetting agent)
- LR 1:8 up to 1:10, 15 min 60°C
- followed by peroxide bleaching* or rinsing and dyeing
* 1 g/l OPTAVON 4UD
for neutralizing + re-extraction after peroxide bleaching
Single-bath, acid demineralization and subsequent hydrogen peroxide bleaching
(OPTABLEACH process):
OPTAVON 4UD can also be used in a single-bath/two-step process (demineralizing/
bleaching). The additional use of a peroxide stabilizer is not necessary because of the
stabilizing effect of the product.
0.5 - 2 g/l OPTAVON 4UD
0.5 - 2 g/l TISSOCYL DLF (detergent)
3 - 8 ml/l H2O2 (35%)
- LR 1:8 up to 1:10, 15 min 60°C acid demineralisation
into the same bath:
1.5 - 3.5 ml/l NaOH (50%), activating for bleaching
- bleaching conditions depending on the desired degree of whiteness:
30 - 60 min at 95°C or 10 -20 min 115°C
- half-white: hot rinsing, removal of residual peroxide with REDUZOL THN, dyeing
- full-white: hot rinsing, 1 g/l OPTAVON 4UD for neutralizing + re-extraction
